Wildcard Dylan Dietrich Stuns Thiago Monteiro in Gstaad Qualifying
Swiss wildcard Dylan Dietrich produced an impressive comeback to defeat experienced Brazilian Thiago Monteiro in the final round of qualifying at the Swiss Open Gstaad.
Dietrich recovered from losing the opening set to win 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 and secure a place in the ATP 250 main draw.
Monteiro appeared to be in control after taking the first set, but Dietrich responded immediately by reversing the scoreline in the second. The Swiss player then edged a close deciding set to complete the upset.
The victory is particularly significant for Dietrich because it came in front of his home crowd and against an opponent with extensive experience on clay.
